The Olmec religion was polytheistic and animistic, meaning that they worshipped multiple gods and believed that spirits were present in all living and non-living things. The Olmec deities were associated with natural forces such as water, mountains, and sky, as well as agricultural fertility and human fertility. One of the most important Olmec gods was the Feathered Serpent, who was associated with water, creation, and renewal. The Olmec also practiced bloodletting rituals, where they would draw blood from themselves or others as offerings to the gods. Archeological evidence suggests that the Olmec built religious structures and altars, and that they may have performed human sacrifices as well. However, much of the Olmec religion remains shrouded in mystery due to the lack of written records.
